Mercers Road Roof Terrace

This roof terrace project transforms a simple outdoor space into a sophisticated urban garden retreat, designed around the client’s passion for planting, entertaining and outdoor living. The design maximises the potential of the terrace’s long, linear footprint by creating a series of distinct yet interconnected zones for dining, relaxation and planting, resulting in a more engaging and purposeful experience throughout. A carefully curated material palette combines warm composite timber decking and bespoke joinery with contemporary black steel detailing, creating a refined yet inviting aesthetic. An expansive L-shaped seating area with soft beige outdoor cushions forms the heart of the terrace, centred around a sculptural concrete coffee table with an integrated firepit that encourages year-round use. A striking black steel pergola introduces structure and enclosure, providing the perfect framework for climbing greenery and helping to establish a unique rooftop oasis above the city. To further strengthen the garden-inspired character of the scheme, corten steel elements are used throughout, including a bespoke pond with waterfall feature and architectural space dividers that introduce texture, warmth and visual separation between zones. Together with a dedicated outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, the design delivers a harmonious balance of nature, comfort and contemporary outdoor living, transforming the terrace into a highly functional extension of the home and a tranquil escape from the surrounding cityscape.
